Middle School Guidance Counselor for the '24/'25 School Year

Description

  • Provide support services for students in areas of social and emotional needs.
  • Assess and counsel students based on observations, conversations and evaluations.
  • Provide personal and group counseling for students to help them learn greater self-awareness, acceptance of responsibility and better decision-making skills.
  • Is a member of the building Child Study Team and will share appropriate evaluation results with staff.
  • Is a member of the crisis intervention team.
  • Develop specialized groups as needed to support students (i.e. circle of friends, divorce, self-esteem)
  • Follow the Michigan Comprehensive Guidance Model, and develop and team teach lessons to support that model.  (i.e. character education, social skills, teacher requests)
  • Work collaboratively with Social Worker.
  • Other duties may be assigned.



 Education and/or Experience:

  • Masters degree in counseling.
  • Valid Elementary or Secondary Michigan Teaching Certificate with school counseling endorsement.

 

Language Skills: 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the community, regulatory agencies or staff members.

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and ledgers.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Position requires sustained periods of sitting and working on computer and office equipment.  

Position requires standing and walking throughout buildings.

Position involves listening, speaking clearly and visual acuity.  

Position involves frequent repetitive action on a keyboard.
