School Social Worker

 

Summary:

Deliver specialized instruction on social-emotional/behavioral goals through direct and consultative school social work  service. Complete required documentation, evaluations, and reports as part of the special education process. Facilitate and actively participate in required and team meeting meetings for the purpose of educational planning and student support.

 

Description

  • Coordinate or serve as a member of diagnostic teams, child study and other teams coordinating the support of educational planning and student success.
  • Participate in comprehensive special education evaluations as part of a multi-disciplinary evaluation team. Administer appropriate assessments, interpret results and provide implications and recommendation from those results and complete written reports and required documentation.
  • Consult and collaborate with other school personnel in determining appropriate interventions and supports to address social-emotional/behavioral needs, in addition to facilitating Functional Behavioral Analyses and Positive Behavior Support Plans.
  • Support ongoing communication and collaboration with families through discussing individual concerns, student progress, providing resources and training, and supporting connections with community agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, administrators, students and families.
  • Actively participate in Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports and Crisis Response Teams.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Masters degree from a graduate school or social work program. A minimum of a 500 clock hour supervised social work practicum. Satisfactory completion of 1 year as a school social worker with direction from a fully approved school social worker.
  • Michigan certification as a school social worker
  • Training and experience with supporting trauma-informed care practices preferred
  • Training and experience with supporting a Positive Behavior Interventions and Support initiative preferred
  • Training and experience with Nonviolent Crisis Prevention and Intervention preferred

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the community, regulatory agencies or staff members.



Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and ledgers.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Position requires sustained periods of sitting and working on computer and office equipment.  

Position requires standing and walking throughout buildings.  

Position involves frequent lifting up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.

Position involves frequent repetitive action on a keyboard.
